I get out of one of my classes about an hour and a half every Tuesday and Thursday. Most of the time I end up on my laptop surfing the web. I check my facebook, look at my fantasy football team, check out espn.com, and play tetris. Then one day, I did all of those things for awhile, and I didn't know what else to do. Sitting there trying to figure out what to do next, I had a weird thought cross my mind; let me enlighten myself. And i went to CNN.com
Now, I'm generally all about sports news, and don't really care for much other news then that, so checking out CNN.com was kinda a big deal. I looked through the headlines and found a lot of stuff that I would actually be interested in reading. I read about the whole Elizabeth Smart trial (that guy is insane), I read about how Kate Gosselin's kids got expelled, the publicist from that new movie (Burleque?) was shot to death after her premiere.
And it went even further than that. I read about business, technology, even politics (Palin thinks she can beat Obama in the next election). And I was really enjoying reading about all of these different subjects that I normally wouldn't read.
Now, I can't imagine there is an online source for news better than CNN.com. It has everything you would ever need to know about news 24 hours a day. I like how all of the major headlines are in bullets right on the side of the web page, and I like how on the other side you can see what the most viewed articles are for the day.
And another feature I love is the ability to comment on the articles. I always read the comments at the bottom to see what others think about what they just read. I found that after reading an article and developing a viewpoint, I would read comments at the bottom. Some people agreed with what I thought, and others didn't, and sometimes I even changed my mind about what I originally thought.
CNN.com also has an international version, which I found cool. I honestly can't think of one thing that could improve the website, it was so informal and user-friendly already. I will continue reading my news from CNN.com
Not necessarily the most important news, but news that's pointless to know

Wikipedia Contributions
So I originally said that I was going to add something to the Alexander Ovechkin wikipedia page. I went there to make a contribution, and the article is protected. You have to get permission to edit the page. I asked for permission, saying I wanted to add something to the article for this class. I was given access, and added the last sentence of the 9th paragraph titled International Play.
But it didn't end there. I thought that was so cool that I added to the article, so I went to the wikipedia article titled Washington Capitals. I looked for something that I could add on to, and found that there wasn't much written about the 2009-2010 season. I added multiple sentences, and if you go to the article, I added everything in the 2009-2010 section of the article except for the first and last sentence.
But I still wasn't done. This became addicting. I went to the article titled Penn State Football, and looked to see if I could add something. I noticed that a big part of Penn State football wasn't on there, so I created an entire paragraph. If you go to the Penn State Football article, I created the entire paragraph called Linebacker U.
I thought this assignment was so cool, and I will definitely do something like this in the future. And those links above take you to the article that I worked on.

Man Sets Record
Librarian Graham Barker has earned himself a place in the Guinness Book of World records. He has collected his belly button "fluff" for 26 years and has collected 22.1 grams, or .77 ounces. He says he was just curious to see how much his stomach produced, and says he collects it before taking a shower. A museum actually bought 3 jars that he has made. He is currently about 1/4 of a jar away from completing another jar. Of course, he also collects his beard clippings. But, what has put his name to fame is collecting lint from your belly button. MSNBC was unable to get a comment from his girlfriend, because there isn't a girlfriend.

India Hires Monkeys to Guard
India has begun using monkeys to guard the Commonwealth Games in New Delhi. New Delhi has a problem with monkeys interfering with there business. Due to the Langurs size and "fierceness", other monkeys fear them and will not bother the games. Apparently the Indian's can't handle the attacking monkeys, so they outsourced the jobs to the Langurs. The Langurs don't complain, despite their extremely low pay. New Delhi prays that they don't form a union and turn against their employers, because they are fierce and scary

"Case of dumb and dumber"
That is the quote stated by Detective Sgt. Andrew Beams after two men stole a 5 foot python and a lizard. The suspects were caught when they decided to bring the python to McDonalds. If i was to steal a python, the first thing i would have done was taken it to McDonalds too. Thank god these guys did it first, now I know never to take my stolen python to a McDonalds cause i will be caught. According to this drawing, pythons do actually like cheeseburgers:
Again I'm not sure which is worse, the fact that someone decided to bring their stolen python to a McDonalds, or i actually found a picture of a python eating a cheeseburger.

Homeless Man Breaks Into Home
A homeless man in Beaverton, Oregon, broke into a home, and from the hot tub, called police to ask for hot chocolate, towels, and a hug. Police say he claimed he was the sheriff, but the man later admitted he wasn't the sheriff. The man said he needed the towels because he had been in the water for 10 hours, and all of his towels got wet. Because of this, he needed hot chocolate with marshmallows and a hug. The man claimed he had been yelling for an hour and a half as well. I'm not sure which is more impressive, the fact that this guy actually figured out how to break into a house, or that he stayed in a hot tub for 10 hours, especially with no dry towel or hot chocolate.

Golfer causes fire with iron
It's not that funny, but I think it's post worthy. Some golfer, who asked to be un-named, took a shot from the rough with his club, struck a rock, caused a spark, and set 12 acres of the course on fire in California. 150 firefighters were called to the scene, and helicopters dropped water from the sky. Police say that the mystery golfer would not be charged for the 12 acres of damage, but I can't imagine he will be welcome back to the club. But, hey, atleast his game is hotter than Tiger's.
Hello
Hello everyone, my name is Tommy Chalk. I was born in Frederick, Maryland, and still live there today. I am 18 years old and I go to Frederick Community college. I am just taking my general ed classes, and have no idea what I want to major in yet. I took this class because I thought it sounded interesting and cool. I work at a retirement home as a waiter, and it may not sound like a good job, but I think it's great. It is right across the street from where I live, so I have a 25 second commute to work.
I have always been a big fan of Bob Marley, but I really like all types of music. My favorite movies are Blackhawk Down and The Hangover. I've seen Blackhawk Down about 20 times, and The Hangover is the funniest movie ever. I'm a huge sports fan, and can sit and watch anything.
By doing this blog, I will post various things about the media, most likely the media's interpretation about these funny events.I've always enjoyed reading about funny or dumb news around the world. I'm gonna try to find funny events and put it in the blog, and I hope you enjoy it.
