CNN Media Review

I get out of one of my classes about an hour and a half every Tuesday and Thursday.  Most of the time I end up on my laptop surfing the web.  I check my facebook, look at my fantasy football team, check out espn.com, and play tetris.  Then one day, I did all of those things for awhile, and I didn't know what else to do.  Sitting there trying to figure out what to do next, I had a weird thought cross my mind;  let me enlighten myself.  And i went to CNN.com

Now, I'm generally all about sports news, and don't really care for much other news then that, so checking out CNN.com was kinda a big deal.  I looked through the headlines and found a lot of stuff that I would actually be interested in reading.  I read about the whole Elizabeth Smart trial (that guy is insane), I read about how Kate Gosselin's kids got expelled, the publicist from that new movie (Burleque?) was shot to death after her premiere.

And it went even further than that.  I read about business, technology, even politics (Palin thinks she can beat Obama in the next election).  And I was really enjoying  reading about all of these different subjects that I normally wouldn't read.

Now, I can't imagine there is an online source for news better than CNN.com.  It has everything you would ever need to know about news 24 hours a day.  I like how all of the major headlines are in bullets right on the side of the web page, and I like how on the other side you can see what the most viewed articles are for the day.

And another feature I love is the ability to comment on the articles.  I always read the comments at the bottom to see what others think about what they just read.  I found that after reading an article and developing a viewpoint, I would read comments at the bottom.  Some people agreed with what I thought, and others didn't, and sometimes I even changed my mind about what I originally thought.

CNN.com also has an international version, which I found cool.  I honestly can't think of one thing that could improve the website, it was so informal and user-friendly already.  I will continue reading my news from CNN.com

Wikipedia Contributions

So I originally said that I was going to add something to the Alexander Ovechkin wikipedia page.  I went there to make a contribution, and the article is protected.  You have to get permission to edit the page.  I asked for permission, saying I wanted to add something to the article for this class.  I was given access, and added the last sentence of the 9th paragraph titled International Play.

But it didn't end there.  I thought that was so cool that I added to the article, so I went to the wikipedia article titled Washington Capitals.  I looked for something that I could add on to, and found that there wasn't much written about the 2009-2010 season.  I added multiple sentences, and if you go to the article, I added everything in the 2009-2010 section of the article except for the first and last sentence.

But I still wasn't done.  This became addicting.  I went to the article titled Penn State Football, and looked to see if I could add something.  I noticed that a big part of Penn State football wasn't on there, so I created an entire paragraph.  If you go to the Penn State Football article, I created the entire paragraph called Linebacker U.

I thought this assignment was so cool, and I will definitely do something like this in the future.  And those links above take you to the article that I worked on.
